Today we avoided rough seas near Victoria. Big Mama and her calf were feeding in that area. We opted instead for Killer Whales Hunting Seals.
Instead, we traveled north to an area just beyond Active Pass where most Friday Harbor boats do not go. We found ourselves in relatively calm waters.
Sights of Bald Eagles watching over their young greeted us along the way and lots of beautiful scenery.
We discovered a group of Transient Killer Whales that were being very social with a lot of tail slapping and playing around. We observed several seal kills. In one of these pics you can see seal meat in its mouth of one Orca. Another shot shows lots of blood in the water.
Seals were in the water and along the shoreline watching with much anxiety as the Killer Whales were prowling about.
This is nature in its rawest form and exhilarating to see.
Lastly, I idled through the tidal rips of Active Pass explaining how the tidal current causes extreme standing waves. Exiting the pass on our right is Georgina Point Lighthouse. This is one of Canada’s many lighthouses that are meant to ensure safe passage for mariners. We had safe passage and a very good day observing Killer Whales Hunting Seals!
