I had a guest on today that wanted to see both humpbacks and Orca. Today there were Many Humpbacks and Many Orca. The humpbacks were down south and the Orca were up north.
We saw the usual seals and a few California Sea Lions then on to the Humpback Whales. One of the Humpbacks is named Heather. Notice the “H” natural tatoo on the left fluke.
I think we saw six humpback whales today but there were reported nearly 20 in the area. It was calm water and beautiful, easy to spot the blows and surfacing when it is this calm too.
Then we went back to Friday Harbor grabbed a bite to eat and off we went again to see the Orca. We saw J34 DoubleStuff, L87 Onyx, J2 Granny, K26 Lobo, J16 Slick, J50 Scarlet who is Slick’s calf, and a whole bunch of other southern resident killer whales.
We even saw some mating activity between Lobo and one of the females. What a day with many humpbacks and many orca.
I was not able to grab many pics today but here is a link to more Humpbacks.
