Today is one of those days where I did not know what I had in pics until I saw it on my computer while processing the pics. We had T65A’s with Calf T65A6 on a Seal Hunt. The cover pic shows the seal on the left side of the male. There are pics of the pod tormenting the seal for about 20 minutes before killing and eating it.
How does a calf learn to hunt? It begins with a seal chase and spending 20 minutes terrifying the seal to exhaustion. Notice the seal’s eyes bugged out in fear? Orcas like to torment their prey before they kill it, pretty much as a cat will with a mouse.
This calf is only three months old, but the family is already getting him in the know of how to grab a seal for dinner, even though he will still be nursing for almost a year. The seal is in about half of the pics with the orca. It is a pretty fantastic day when you can see nature like this. T65A’s with Calf T65A6 on a Seal Hunt is nature at its finest.
We also saw a Humpback Whale, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals and all this way up north in Sansum narrows off Salt Spring Island in Canada.
