Kids Wading Orca Killing. Not too many places do you see moms with their kids wading in the water and within sight is a pod of Killer Whales milling and killing their dinner, namely seals. In a couple of the pics, you can see a couple of the Killer Whales “Kelping” which is dragging kelp around with the dorsal fin and playing with it.
A beautiful sunny day with lots of Bald Eagles, including my first day seeing chicks actually out of their nest and one having flown to a different tree. Seal moms and their look a like mini me pups. Rhinoceros Auklet too. We also saw a big beautiful Stellar Sea Lion.
And of course our Killer Whales. First we saw the J16’s with J16 Slick and J50 Scarlett and the rest of the clan. We stayed pretty far off so no shots of Slick and Scarlett but J26 Mike did make an appearance closer to us so we were able to get a couple shots and admire him a bit.
Then we were off to see the T99B’s. I actually had not heard who it was and when I saw my pics remembered her from when I found them in the Strait of Juan de Fuca the other day and ID’d with help of another Naturalist.
We saw a couple seal kills and noticed the kids wading on the shore. Kids Wading Orca Killing. What a beautiful place we can call home, in general I mean. We were off the shore of Victoria and Vancouver Island. But the Salish Sea as a whole is so beautiful.
