J-Pod and Biggs’s T18’s are today’s subject. Today weather reports were sounding iffy but as we headed north it was not bad. While on our way to see Southern Resident Killer Whales we learned of a group of Biggs Killer Whales. This group is known as the T18’s. They were found along our route.
We stopped off at Patos Island and viewed this group for a bit. There were two adult males and two females.
Then we made our way to the SRKW’s south of Point Roberts and watched them for a bit. I put the hydrophone down and we were treated to some amazing vocals with a very chatty bunch of Orca. While I was working with and recording the vocals I missed a couple really nice breaches nearby.
Sadly, the J17’s were spotted further back from the others. J35 Tahlequah is still carrying her baby girl, now nine days after she died. Tahlequah’s health must be suffering, not eating and expending the extra energy as she is.
J-Pod and Biggs’s T18’s made for a great day of watching whales.
