Humpback and Minke Whale became the attraction. Someone had spotted our Southern Resident Killer Whales west of Race Rocks. They were on their way out to sea this morning. We searched for the Biggs pods that have been around but did not find them.
We did get to see a Humpback Whale known as “Scratchy”. You can see the tail fluke shots and get an idea of how she got her name.
We saw a lot of seabird species today. Bald Eagles including some young ones. The eaglets were strengthening their wings so they can fly from the nest. I saw at least four Great Blue Heron today. A couple seagull chicks that I don’t usually see. There were about 40 Tufted Puffin. A few Rhinoceros Auklet with a few fish in his mouth.
Harbor Seals, a few Stellar Sea Lions including one right in front of the harbor. Humpback and Minke Whale were the excitement today.
On our way back to the dock we passed the Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain in San Juan Channel. They are modern schooners that look authentic.
