Today we received word early of a group of Biggs in the Fog. These Killer Whales also are known as Transients. They were seen north of our island. We all started search patterns but with no luck.
They were located in the afternoon west of where we had been. There was some thick fog out there this morning making it easy for them to slip by unnoticed. I think they probably were in the fog bank until they broke out later in the afternoon and were spotted.
We saw Harbor Seals, Immature Bald Eagles, an Eagle chick still in the nest. A quite amusing Black Oyster Catcher bathing and grooming himself. Two seals keeping an eye on me as he was bathing.
Further south in the fog bank we saw several monster sized Stellar Sea Lions. They were hauled out and sleeping on the rocks. Another Stellar swimming close to us and checking us out.
Today is the first day this year I have had to use my radar for limited visibility. I use it often to keep track of how far I am off of whales, making sure we are not too close.
An interesting day with the Biggs in the Fog.
