T90’s, T87, WDFW Protecting Our Whales. Today I had to make an early morning run at 0645 to Sidney to pick up some parts. On the way back I had time to scout and was scanning for whales. I was able to come upon a pod of 5 whales.
I stayed with them until WDFW showed up and warded off a fast approaching vessel. My camera grabbed a couple of shots of WDFW (Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife). They stopped a fast vessel and stayed dead in the water until the whales passed by.
Back at the dock I picked up my first tour and spent more time with the whales. We saw Harbor Seals and Stellar Sea Lions. On the way out I discovered a scientific buoy of some kind on Salmon Bank and scanned for Minke Whales but did not see any.
The afternoon tour we started towards the whales and saw some wildlife before approaching the whales. That is an effort to minimize the number of vessels at a time. To allow a few boats to depart.
There were River Otters on Spieden Island as well as Fallow Deer, Sika Deer, and Mouflon Sheep. Bald Eagles and Blue Herons.
Then we headed off to see the whales. On the way back we had some Harbor Porpoise “porpoising” in our wake which is totally unheard of.
There is not a more shy animal than the harbor porpoise. A lot of pics today but hoping you enjoy T90’s, T87, WDFW Protecting Our Whales
