Today was a super Gorgeous day on the water with the Biggs 100’s and 100B’s. We left Friday Harbor in search of whales. Heading south towards the Strait of Juan de Fuca I stopped off to see Harbor Seals, Bald Eagles, and Stellar Sea Lions.
The made our way to Smith Island, rounded it and then headed back towards Lopez Island. Combing the shoreline now headed west we received word that there were four plus animals where we had been forty minutes earlier.
We were with them about ten minutes later, and they led us right back to Friday Harbor.
It ended up being six Biggs Killer Whales including one good sized male T100C who is now 17 years old, almost a full grown male. A 9-year-old juvenile in the mix too known as T100B1. In total, we had six whales.
The matriarch of the Biggs 100’s and 100B’s in the group was T100 with a little scalloped edge missing towards the top of her dorsal. She is 31 years old.
Also in my pics, you will see the Harbor Seals, Harlequin Ducks, Bald Eagles, Stellar Sea Lions, and Rhinoceros Auklet. What is pretty surprising is that Stellar Sea Lions were swimming in the path of the Orca, but they did not engage in a hunt.
