Had a hiccup in today’s tour. I had a high temp alarm go off and was hoping for something simple like a serpentine belt replacement. The belt was fine so I ended up replacing the water impeller. I noticed the seawater strainer was empty. I learned long ago to carry spares for situations just like this that can be fixed on the water. It is that or calling for a tow back to the harbor. After the on water repair, we were off to see a group of Beautiful Biggs Killer Whales.
Beautiful Biggs Killer Whales
We got up and running again and made our way to 6 Biggs Killer Whales in Boundary Pass.
Lots of great viewing today and a few pics of a yacht violating the law running right over the top of this group of Orca. Those pics I have sent to Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada since we were on the Canadian side of the border. If on the USA side I would have sent them to WDFW. While I was swapping the impeller, WDFW officer Taylor Kimball stopped by to see if we were ok. Taylor came to Friday Harbor earlier this year and trained 24 of us on collecting evidence of whale harassment violations.
The whales we were viewing are T87, T90’s, and T124A2’s. We did not see a kill while with them but I heard later that one had taken place before our arrival. They truly were a group of beautiful Biggs killer whales.
We viewed them along the way as they made their way over to Coal Island near Sydney BC.
Exotics and Seabirds
A couple of exotic animal pics from Spieden Island and a few bird pics of Great Blue Heron and Black Oystercatcher to end the tour with.
