Where to go?

I had no idea where we were going on our afternoon tour today. There were three humpback whales up north. Then I heard we had the T65A’s in Saratoga Channel between Camano and Whidbey Islands. These Biggs T65A’s Getting Frisky was a great tour.

Deception Pass

On the way there we passed under Deception Pass bridge. While we were southbound inside Whidbey Island, we were able to view our US Navy pilots practicing with the F35 Growler jets. We continued past Oak Harbor and Penn Cove, the site where Sea World captured so many of our whales.

Finally, we arrived on the scene to some slow-moving but somewhat playful killer whales. In a couple of the pics, you can see T65A3 on his back. He is showing what some have described as a pink snake. He was getting frisky with his sister T65A5. They were a little bit separated from mom T65A, her oldest son T65A2 and T65A4, and the newest calf T65A6.

Calves with lots of energy

It never gets old watching the young calves lunge out of the water with all their energy. The young ones will generally stay very close to mom.

We stayed with them as long as we could knowing we needed to get back to Friday Harbor for the 7:40 ferry back to Anacortes. On the way back we saw some Dahls Porpoise, but I didn’t linger long. Then we saw a pair of Tufted Puffin, again no time to stay and wait for them to get closer but we did see them. We also saw a Pacific Loon. I was not sure if it was a Common Loon or Pacific Loon until I saw my pics on the computer.

Lastly, we saw the Stellar Sea Lions and a couple of pics of Cattle Point Lighthouse and the Olympic Mountain Range. A beautiful day with Biggs T65A’s Getting Frisky and very calm seas allowing us to make this long trip.
