I may have gotten carried away with taking pics of our white whale today. Most of my pics seem to include the white orca calf. Here at home editing photos of our white whale, I am dubbing Casper even though he was nicknamed Kanaka. Casper upstages wedding party, the wedding photographer can be seen walking down toward the whales to snap some shots.
I sent a message to the couple letting them know I had some pics for them if they would like them. We will see if I get a reply or not.
So this calf is not a completely white albino but he sure looks white. This calf if part of the T46B pod. There is another younger calf in the pod too and still has pink flesh where it will be white as it grows older. We started near Saanich Inlet and observed them as they made their way into Fullford Harbor on Salt Spring Island. On the evening tour, we caught up with them in Trincomali Pass.
The weather could not have been better, warm and calm seas. We also saw Bald Eagles and I snapped a shot of a Pacific Murre. The Stellar Sea Lions are all but gone now and will be back in the fall.
This little Orca I dubbed Casper had us riveted to the uniqueness of his skin pigment. Casper upstages the wedding party and then captivated all our attention throughout the day.
