Another gorgeous day with whales to view in any direction you chose to travel. Today we spent time with Casper and other calves and their families. We observed three pods today — the T65Bs, T46Bs, T36Bs, and T77A. The big male is a loner who was traveling with these pods today.
We started the day viewing some harbor seals, bald eagles, and stellar sea lions. I did not realize until I was on the computer, but the seal pup was so new that its umbilical cord is still hanging from its belly — another shot of an uncomfortable looking seal about to give birth.
I shot a few bird pics of Bald Eagle, Rhinoceros Auklet and Pigeon Guillemot.
Then some shots of calves from each of the pods. I love these little ones with so much energy bound up as they lurch out of the water.
We did not see any bloody kills today, just traveling and sleeping. It looked like we might see a kill when they ran through some kelp, but it did not happen. On the afternoon tour, they slept the whole time we were with them. Whale sightings kept coming up on the radio throughout the day. However, I was happy to stay with Casper and other calves we enjoyed watching.
The one animal I did not have near us today was Humpback Whales. Despite searches all over our area, they were not to be seen by us today. Some had been spotted way up north and way down south near Port Angeles.
