This evening we left the harbor and headed for the T65As in Sansum Narrows which is north of Sidney, BC. It is a channel separating Vancouver Island from Salt Spring Island. The T65As spent a lot of time there today making kills and slowly making their way south.

I am on day three of a lens rental and discovered some limitations this evening. I was mostly shooting towards a dark hillside because that is the only option I had. Many of the pics did not turn out and those that did are not anything to brag about. Hindsight and now foresight I should have and will change to my 120-300mm f2.8 lens which is much faster than the f5.6 rental I am using for a week. Most of the time f5.6 is just fine but not tonight.

We saw them make a kill of either a Harbor Porpoise or a Harbor Seal, I am not sure of which. During the kill they were practicing their Orca Whack-a-Mole moves. They milled around for a bit sharing the kill before moving on. They started playing around, some breaching, some tail lobbing.

T65A2, the 15-year-old male was not present. It is believed he is back spending time with his aunt and cousins the T65Bs. I love to spend time with this pod, one of my favorites and the T65As in Sansum Narrows close enough to be with today was very nice.
