A couple of great tours today. We started off leaving the harbor and rounding the corner into Griffin Bay to be with the T137 pod of Biggs Orca.
This pod has a 17-year-old male who’s health has been of concern to biologists. Today was the first time I have seen him since this alert, and I can say I do recognize he was very lethargic, lagging behind his mom and siblings. He did not share in the two seal kills we witnessed either — neither the killing of nor the eating of.
At one point, three of us had to shut down because they surfaced close. I am hoping for the best, and this big boy can recover.
I have several sea birds in the mix today. I have Pigeon Guillemot. Red-necked Phalarope, Tufted Puffin, and Common Loon, five of them. We saw the Steller Sea Lions and more.
We saw four species of whales today including Biggs Orca, Humpback Whale, Gray Whale, and Minke Whale, though I did not get a shot of the Minke.
