I started heading north towards Trincomali Channel this afternoon to meet up with a few Biggs Orca. The male in the group took off doing 15 knots and went through Active Pass and into Georgia Strait with 5′ and 6′ seas. I was hoping to make it to the others before they also went through Active Pass. However on the way up there we starting getting into some heavy seas, 4′ and after learning the pod had entered Active Pass I decided to turn back.
We saw some Harbor Seals and Steller Sea Lions on our way to see three Humpback Whales. Once on scene with the Humpbacks they were doing short dives and fluking often. Best of all the seas were flat calm other than a tide rip here and there. One of them was Two Spot, the other two I did not recognize.
We watched them for quite a while then moved on to see a Bald Eagles nest. While viewing the nest and one of the adult eagles a Northern Harrier Hawk flew by. Not the best pics but nice to see this female Northern Harrier Hawk.
