After fueling the boat I learned a pod of Orca had been spotted by another whale watcher from a BC Ferry. We left the dock thinking we would be arriving on scene to view the T137s and T46s. However, with six boats out there including myself to try and reaquire the pod, none of us were able to locate them.
We covered a lot of miles of the Strait of Georgia, Haro Strait, Boundary Pass, Swanson Channel, Trincomali Pass, Active Pass, Porlier Pass, Plumper Sound, and Navy Channel. I am including a screen shot of our route weaving in and out of the islands making our way to Porlier Pass and then back down the other side. That route was a 109 miles in length today.
No Orca for us but we did see tons of Steller Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, Dalls Porpoise and some of the exotic animals on Spieden Island including Fallow Deer, Sika Deer, Mouflon Sheep ewes and rams. I did not see any of the mature rams today with their full curl horns, all we saw were the younger ones with their ¼ to ½ curl horns. It will not be long and we will start seeing a whole bunch of fawns and lambs among them.
Included is a very short video clip link to a Dalls Porpoise. I will also share a link below that to a pod of Dalls we encountered from last week that was a pretty special moment.
