Orca Again Today T123’s is who we found ourselves viewing.
I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the weather turned out with the forecast calling for a pretty stiff blow. We left the harbor heading up to Spieden Channel where we met up with a pod of Orcas.
On the way learned that WDFW had been called because of a vessel riding over the top of the pod. On arrival, sure enough there was a boat within just a couple whale lengths trailing the pod as they surfaced. After snapping a few pics to send off to WDFW and blasting them with a horn, I focused on the pod.
We were viewing the T123’s. They were zig-zagging their way through the channel as if hunting prey. Once they left the channel they started in a series of deep dives and became harder to track. At one point they doubled back and stayed in one spot for quite a while as if they had something pinned down but we never saw anything for sure.
Then they continued west into Haro Strait and we left them off Stuart Island.
It was a gorgeous day with a beautiful pod of Orcas.
