Minke whales are the smallest of what is known as the “great whales” in the world. They are typically around 22′ but can reach lengths up to 35′. There is one smaller baleen whale that I know of which is the Pigmy Right Whale. The Minke got its name from a Norwegian whale spotter who’s name was Meinke. He mistook it for the largest animal in the world, the Blue Whale which can be over 100′ in length.

Today there were several displays of lunge feeding among bait balls of fish.

We also saw more Tufted Puffins admiring their quirky nature and beauty. The Stellar Sea Lions are starting to come back from sea again and they are always enjoyable to view.
