My first tour was a Birding Tour to Smith Island to see the Tufted Puffin and hopefully a viewing of the Horned Puffin that has been here this year. Unfortunately with the Smoke from nearby forest fires, and rough sea state we only found two puffins and both had lost their tufts and mating plumage.
This compared to last week’s birding tour when we found about twenty and most still had their breeding plumage. See last weeks tour here Horned Puffin and Orca Pod
We saw a lot of White-winged Scoter and Red-necked Grebes today. Making one of the White-winged Scoter pics my featured pic today, beautiful bird.
Later on the afternoon tour, I headed up north in calmer water to see the T123 pod of Killer Whales. At one point they made a quick kill, ate, and moved on. Pretty uneventful as far as kills go.
