Today we were searching for an Elusive Duo of Orca that had been seen from the ferry. I think I counted thirteen vessels combing the island waters looking for them. We never found them. The weather in the straits was not great so my guess is they made it to Juan de Fuca and kept going where we were not able to go.
It was not a great day for USA boats. There were Bigg’s Orca and Humpbacks on the Canadian side of the border but until Canada is not afraid of the Americans we are not permitted to cross over.
I had a student onboard today that had just done a report on Cormorants so I am including a couple of pics of them. We saw Steller Sea Lions, Harbor Seals, Black Oystercatchers. We also saw the exotic animals on Spieden Island consisting of Sika Deer, Fallow Deer, and Mouflon Sheep.
