Our highlight for this evening’s tour was the T75Bs training a calf to hunt. They left the seal alive, though traumatized, and moved on. This was a make-up tour for the previous day’s 6-hour tour, with no orcas to be found. Hearing the girl’s excitement watching the orcas circling, spy hopping, and doing everything but the actual kill of the seal hiding in a small patch of kelp was pleasing to me.
The pod moved on, the seal still looked terrified and was not leaving that tiny patch of floating kelp. It was time to head home and call it a day. What a day it was.
“The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”
