Today I headed north almost to Sucia Island and met up with Biggs Killer Whales The T65As. Mom and the two young ones were not with this group. They had just swam past a minke whale but did not engage it.
We did see a couple seal kills though but nothing gruesome in the pics. In a few pics you will see the whales trying to whack a seal with their tails. In one the seal sidestepped and is swimming in opposite direction. I dubbed this the Orca version of Whack-A-Mole.
I captured a couple shots of a Pacific Loon that was startled by the whales. He was running on water during his take off.
As soon as I got back to the dock a couple guys wanted to go out. Since the whales were close by I said yes. They boarded and we were off to see the whales. They had not gotten far and were in no real hurry to go anywhere.
The pod kept changing directions and milling around. They may have had another seal or a porpoise they were munching on but I didn’t see it.
What a day with these Biggs Killer Whales The T65As.
I am also including a pic of Mount Baker and one of Friday Harbor Labs, University of Washington since one of my guests is a student there.
