Biggs T65A’s hunting seals were our focus. I actually thought I may be canceling the tour due to heavy seas. San Juan Channel was pretty rough early on. It was blowing pretty stiff but then the winds died completely. After that, it was pretty decent water conditions.
After leaving the harbor, we saw some Harbor Seals. Then we slowly made our way over to see the T65A pod kill and devour a seal. They started doing their happy dance, breaching and playing around. They had some meat in their bellies and feeling good.
I am including one pic that is not that great. It is of a seal with a look of terror on its face just before he became lunch.
My guests asked about birds in the area so I found a few. I showed them King Fisher, which I did not get a good pic of. They are so hard to capture with a camera. We saw Rhinoceros Auklet and Pacific Murre. I saw a new bird for me, the Pacific Loon. A Pacific Murre with a fish in his mouth. They were able to see Harlequin Ducks. An odd-looking Tufted Puffin with his winter plumage making him look pretty awkward with no tufts and a huge orange beak.
It was a great day watching the Biggs T65A’s hunting seals and all the other wildlife.
