Bird Watching Tours

Our Salish Sea Birds

Bird watching in the Salish Sea is unique as it contains a stunning ecosystem with 172 Seabird species for our Bird-Watching Tours. We see many species daily. While some do migrate in and out of the Salish Sea at different times of the year, there are some species that are here all year. We will have some species of birds in the summer that are not here in the winter, and there will be some species that are here in the winter and not in the summer.

To name a few, we see Tufted Puffins, Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagles, Rhinoceros Auklet, and Pacific Loon. We could see Pacific Common Murre, Marbled Murrelet, Red Neck Phalarope,  or Hooded Merganser.  The list goes on to cover all 172 species.

Go on a birding tour with us, and you will see many birds from our vessel. As we tour the Salish Sea and the San Juan Islands, you will recognize what a jewel the Salish Sea is and how privileged we are  to live near and experience its wonders.

You may have specific birds you would like to see. We can try to find them or head out and be surprised at what nature presents for us. Nature never fails to offer wonderful views of life among our sea birds and other animals.

Photography

Many of my guests are photographers, and that is great. Birding photography is a passion for some. If this is you, I will do my best to position the vessel so that you can use your camera and lens to capture some amazing shots.  I will be taking photographs on our tour as well. I will plan to send the best of those photographs to you by email after I have edited them at home.

My recommendation for a lens would be a minimum of 300mm and better still 400mm to 600mm for capturing some amazing close up shots of birds. If you are not equipped for this type of photography, sit back and enjoy the tour and know I will do my best to send you some great shots. Birding photography has been a passion of mine for many years.

We look forward to serving you
