Hunt, Chase and Kill
As we were arriving on the scene with a pod of orca known as the T65A’s, we were just in time to witness a hunt. There were several Dall’s Porpoise trying to outswim and outmaneuver the Killer Whales. The brutality and beauty of nature at its best during a hunt.
They eventually did capture at least one porpoise as evidenced by the seagulls diving for bits of leftovers. Then something happened that makes me believe they had more than one porpoise. There was considerable blood boil all of a sudden. Look for the pic among this days tour pics.
About thirty miles from us, at the same time, a Gray Whale had been killed by a pod of orca and they were feasting on it.
We stayed as long as we could and then made our way around the bottom of San Juan to see some Stellar Sea Lions. I was able to show them Tufted Puffin too.
Serious Photographers
My evening tour was a group of professional and some very serious photographers. I am usually hearing wow look at that lens or that camera. Not on this tour, I was the one going “Nice,” and my envy starts to hyperventilate. I am sure I had the least expensive lens on the boat.
For the evening tour, we headed out to catch up to the T65A’s yet again off of Victoria. They were very playful and having a great time as we captured of them breaching and tail lobbing.
We stayed as long as we dared before it got too late for my guests’ primary focus, that being the Tufted Puffin. By the time we met up with a mated pair of Puffin, the lighting was so beautiful. I even was able to mount a prime lens to my camera body and try it out thanks to a Nikon Pro that was in my tour group.
A few sunset pics and then seeing Black Oyster Catchers and Stellar Sea Lions. Brutality and Beauty of Nature is a wonderful thing to witness.
