Our tour started as we made our way out of the harbor. I received word that there was Saanich Inlet Killer Whales in Brentwood Bay. Saanich Inlet is on the west side of Sydney and goes down to the top end of Victoria. Butchart Gardens is also in Brentwood Bay. It is a long haul, so we passed on seeing some of our amazing marine life leading up to a whale encounter.
These whales were T86A’s a mom and three kids, T87 a lone male, and T124A1 a female from another pod traveling with them. The mom and kids were munching on a seal when I first arrived on the scene. Later on the second tour, they were all sharing a seal or sea lion. After we departed, they grabbed another sea lion. The Saanich Inlet Killer Whales traveled north up into Sansum NarrowsThat is where we caught up to them for the second tour. Sansum Narrows separates Salt Spring Island from Vancouver Island.
A couple of beautiful spy hops after they finished their meal up in Sansum Narrows.
Today was a gorgeous day in the Salish Sea. There were multiple Humpback Whale sightings, too, but we did not have time to get to them.
