Four Pods Beautiful Day
An excellent day for Spirit of Orca with lots of whales around to enjoy watching. We saw Four Pods Beautiful Day and three Humpback Whales. One of the Humpbacks is known as Orion. The other two by Turn Point Lighthouse I was not able to Identify.
T37s and T34s
We started in the morning heading over into Canadian waters near Sidney. There we saw the T37s and T34s. After spending time with those whales, we started back towards the US side of the border. Before we got there, we saw a few surfacing of Orion, a Humpback Whale. Then we crossed over and viewed a pair of unidentified whales near Turn Point Lighthouse as the backdrop for some of the pics.
A few shots of Bald Eagles and Harbor Seals rounded out the morning tour before heading back to the harbor.
Sunset Tour
My next tour was a sunset tour, and we left the harbor heading straight for the Orcas that were up north pointed away from us. Once we caught up with them, we were near Blaine, Washington. This group of Orcas were the T65As and the T77s. I was thrown off for a bit because the 15-year-old male T65A2 was not present. T65A2 is still growing, but he is a big boy. Another full-grown male was there, T77B a 19 year old with a fully developed six-foot-tall dorsal fin.
The sun setting on them made the coloring so beautiful to see. Georgia Strait was flat calm, and it was a gorgeous evening. In the background of a few of the pics, you can see the city of Vancouver, BC. I was hoping to see a Humpback on the way home, but no luck spotting blows.
Nursing Seal Pup
A stop off at Flattop Island to see eagles and Harbor Seals, including a mama nursing her pup. Then a pleasant cruise back to Friday Harbor with the sun setting behind us. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place and to have seen four pods beautiful day and magnificent whales.
