A Sleepy Humpback

There was plenty of wind and waves today. On the first tour, I took my guests north to see a Humpback Whale. This whale appears to be “Stitch” one we saw the day before with “Heather.” Today was a Sleepy Humpback & Pretty Puffins day. Stitch seemed to be sleepy, maybe even sleeping as there was not much activity.

Marine Life of the Salish Sea

On the way north, we stopped off to see harbor seals with their newborn pups. Then we saw about 6 or 8 Bald Eagles too. There was an exchange between a couple of eagles that was not friendly. On “Gull Rock” there were little ugly fuzz balls also known as Glaucous-winged Gulls and chicks. I snapped a couple of pics of a Black Oystercatcher on Gull Rock too.

Then I made my way up to Plumper Sound where we saw another bald eagle, and I explained the difference between the American and Canadian Bald Eagles. After that, we went through Georgeson Pass and into some  rolling swells as we viewed the humpback.

I took a couple of photos of a Gull Rookery. If you look closely you can see plastic and poly materials that the Gulls used to build their nests. We pulled another mylar baloon out of the water and it drives me nuts to see plastic in our oceans.

Anorther Pod of Orca

On the second tour another pod of Orca had been found, and I so wanted to make our way to see them. The wind waves were not allowing it, and even the bigger boats from the islands were not heading for them.

Instead, I took my guests south via San Juan Channel to Whale Rocks where we saw a few Stellar Sea Lions. Then we motored over to Iceberg Point to try and see a pair of Tufted Puffin that has been hanging out there. No luck at Iceberg Point.

Puffin Colony

I decided to take it easy and make our way over to a nearby island to see Puffins. We spent some time enjoying the views they gave us and one in particular who was grooming himself to look pretty. I hope you enjoy the photos of our Sleepy Humpback & Pretty Puffins for the day.
