J Pod was Chillin down in the straits today, and it was a beautiful evening observing them. The first couple of pics are of J35 Tahlequah and her son J47 Notch. Notch’s name becomes very obvious when you see his dorsal fin.
Most of us remember Tahlequah from last year giving birth to a baby girl who lived for a half hour and died. She carried her baby girl on her head, grieving for 17 days before letting go.
The big male is J27 Blackberry. I was thinking Mike until I got a look at my pics. The mom and calf are J31 Tsuchi and her as yet unnamed calf born earlier this year.
We saw a few others playing and breaching before moving on to see the Humpback Whale to the east of our position. A few looks at the Humpback Whale, and we moved on to Whale Rocks to view Steller Sea Lions, including a couple of them getting a bit testy with each other.
