It was cold and rainy today, and as we left the harbor, I was feeling bad for my guests who had come up from Florida to see the Orca. We began crossing Boundary Pass, and it was pouring as we were on our way to see the T37A’s and T99’s in Active Pass.
As we neared Active Pass and were catching up to the two pods of Orcas, the sun started to show with some blue sky. It turned out to be a pretty nice tour, and we viewed the pods for a good half hour before they entered the Strait of Georgia.
We saw the calf T37A5, who is about eight months old and lots of lively energy skipping along with mom. We saw them in some hunting behavior near the rocks where some Sea Lions had been and likely some Harbor Seals at another spot. We did not see any actual kills take place though, no gory, bloody sights which to me, are exciting to see nature in the raw.
I snapped a couple of pics of a BC Ferry heading into Active Pass from the Georgia side, the blue sky, and Point Georgina Light House. Just because it was such a gloomy day, but it cleared up and was very nice. As we entered Friday Harbor, I snapped a pic of the Ferry Tilikum with Friday Harbor as the backdrop.
On the return trip, we stopped to see and talk about Bald Eagles and Steller Sea Lions.
