A perfect day on the water with Horned Puffin Goal Achieved and Orca Too. We were viewing Tufted Puffins, Red-necked Grebes, White-winged Scoters, Black Oystercatchers, Red-necked Phalarope, and the goal of the day finding the elusive Horned Puffin.
While viewing the birds a pod of Orca was approaching us so we viewed them for a few minutes before continuing our search for the Horned Puffin. It was nice to see him for my birding tour who came to see just him but also enjoyed seeing so many others of the 172 species of sea birds in the Salish Sea.
That pod is also who we viewed on my second tour after stopping to view a Minke Whale first. The Orca pod was the T37As. It looked like they were going to lead us to the border where we would have to stop but then they turned right and led us back towards San Juan Island.
