The T109As in San Juan Channel were our main attraction today. It was blowing hard in Juan de Fuca strait today and I took us north in search of whales.
On the way we saw a few bald eagles, with three of them feeding on a baby seal carcass.
I went up Bellingham Channel, scanned the Outer Islands as we passed by and headed over to Java Rocks on the Canadian side of the border. We were coming up empty, but another boat found a pod of five orca in San Juan Channel so we headed back south again.
I thought there was a piece of seal being dragged along with the orcas, but it turns out it was just a young male getting frisky.
“The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”
