Nine Orcas breaching and porpoising. That was how the day was for us. First, we satisfied the birder in my guests, hitting Bird Rocks for Black Turnstones, Black Oystercatchers, Harlequin Ducks, and more. Then, some time was spent at Smith Island for puffins.
Now it was time for the orcas. We met up with them after they cleared the no-go zone in Haro Strait. They flipped a couple of times and made a kill, presumably a seal, though we did not see it. This was the T49As and the T75Bs. They were breaching and porpoising as they raced each other north to the next kelp beds at Battleship Island where they combed the kelp for more seals. For my second tour, we had more of the same, just not birds.
