T99B and Others

I thought we were headed for J Pod and some L’s up at Point Roberts. They were headed SW towards East Point. However, they had changed course and were turned away from us. We were still headed that way and when we were about 10 miles out they started porpoising towards the Fraser River. They were sprinting at 10 plus knots.

Fortunately for us a pod of Biggs or Transient Killer Whales had been picked up. They were in our path. We know for certain that we had T99B in our midst. The others are up for debate at least for the next few hours. I think maybe T37A’s as well but the dorsal nick doesn’t quite match.

The T’s were in the process of killing a Porpoise when we arrived. After we left I was told they had killed a Stellar Sea Lion.

Sometimes we don’t get to choose where we are when the whales show up. That was the case for the first bunch of my pics. It was near sunset and we were on the opposite side of the sun. This meant a lot of my pics are more of a silhouette. I like to be on the sunny side so the whales are highlighted. You can see their markings better. Still, the T99B and Others were great to watch.

It was a good hour and ten minutes up there and the same back. We spent almost an hour of watching the Killer Whales. We made it back to the harbor just as it was too dark to see logs in our path.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Spirit of Orca 20180911 35Spirit of Orca 20180911 34Spirit of Orca 20180911 33Spirit of Orca 20180911 32Spirit of Orca 20180911 31Spirit of Orca 20180911 30Spirit of Orca 20180911 29 Spirit of Orca 20180911 28Spirit of Orca 20180911 27Spirit of Orca 20180911 26Spirit of Orca 20180911 25Spirit of Orca 20180911 24 Spirit of Orca 20180911 23Spirit of Orca 20180911 22Spirit of Orca 20180911 21Spirit of Orca 20180911 20Spirit of Orca 20180911 19 Spirit of Orca 20180911 18Spirit of Orca 20180911 17Spirit of Orca 20180911 16Spirit of Orca 20180911 15Spirit of Orca 20180911 14 Spirit of Orca 20180911 13Spirit of Orca 20180911 12Spirit of Orca 20180911 11Spirit of Orca 20180911 10Spirit of Orca 20180911 9 Spirit of Orca 20180911 8Spirit of Orca 20180911 7Spirit of Orca 20180911 6Spirit of Orca 20180911 5Spirit of Orca 20180911 4 Spirit of Orca 20180911 3Spirit of Orca 20180911 2[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
