We started out north for Canada. I changed direction to go west toward Victoria. Then got word of Killer Whales in Spieden Channel close by. All this within a five minute period after leaving the harbor.

Course changed for Spieden Channel which allowed us to spend more time with the Killer Whales. Travel to either of the Canadian groups would have eaten up a lot of time. Though we did end up in Canada to put distance between us and the group we watched on our departure.

There were two Humpback Whales who are known as Heather and Raptor. Heather is obvious and easy to identify. She has an “H” as if it was a tattoo but it is natural and her name derives from that mark. Raptor is a little more difficult to ID but I have included her Fluke pic.

Captured a couple of my favorite bird the Red-Necked Phalarope. This bird will spin in a circle creating a whirlpool which it then steps out of and pecks at and feeding on the bugs and critters caught in the whirlpool.

Stellar Sea Lions were seen capping off a wonderful tour of our Salish Sea Creatures.
