Today was a beautiful yet cool day on the water. We saw Biggs and Humpbacks Heather and Raptor, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals. The Biggs Killer Whales were of two pods the T124A’s and 36A’s. The two Humpbacks are known as Heather and Raptor. Heather is so named because she has a mark on the left fluke that looks like an H tattoo. We attempted to see Stellar Sea Lions, but it appears the last of them have left us until this fall when they will return.
We had a helicopter hovering overhead for a bit today getting a look at the whales. The noise from those things must affect the whales.
On the afternoon tour, we heard a couple of humpbacks that were close by, so we also made our way to see them. What a treat we experienced. Two double breaches, both whales at the same time and a few single breaches. The noise when these creatures come crashing down into the water is like thunder. Imagine a loaded semi truck crashing sideways into the sea.
My timing with having the boat in the right position, camera at the ready and focus did not go so well for capturing the breaches. I was able to get one of the breaches on camera but just ever so slightly out of focus. I am still including it and hope you enjoy the sequence.
It was a pretty cool day to see so much marine life including Biggs and Humpbacks Heather and Raptor in our Salish Sea.
