Humpback and Killer Whales were our focus today. On our morning tour, there were no reports of Orca close by. That means we were in search mode. We left for Constance Bank off of Victoria where I knew that a Humpback Whale was milling about.
On the afternoon tour, there were several reports. There were Orca up near Nanaimo, BC. Some near Vancouver and some westbound towards Neah Bay.
The Orca that were reported this side of Vancouver were moving in a southwesterly direction toward us. We left the harbor heading that direction. About halfway up a report said they had changed direction. They were now northeast bound. I kept going since I did not have an evening tour and my guests were up to it.
Thirty-five miles later from Friday Harbor we caught up with a group of Biggs Killer Whales off of Sand Heads near Vancouver BC. Vancouver is in the background of a couple of pics. I have never taken the boat this far for a tour. We were one of the few who experienced Orca each of the last three days. Meaning other vessels were not able to see an orca.
Today’s weather was absolutely gorgeous. The water was flat all day. A much-needed break after the stormy seas of the last three days. Today seeing Humpback and Killer Whales was a treat for my guests.
