Big Mama and her baby ‘PopTart’

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The weather up north was 3′ and 4′ seas so we headed south.  We arrived on scene with Big Mama and her baby ‘PopTart’ that she brought back from Mexico.

We had our very good friends Rick and Debbie Kitchen with us celebrating their anniversary.  As soon as we got there Big Mama and her calf were breaching and playing around.  It appeared at times that baby was nursing from mama but couldn’t be sure.

I was able to get several shots of baby breaching but none of the ones of Big Mama turned out.

If not already aware, Big Mama is one of the regulars that call the Salish Sea home.

Another highlight from today was seeing for the first time that at least one eaglet has hatched and mama or papa eagle standing guard.  At least one of the adults will stand guard until the young one is old enough to fly away on his own to live his or her own life.

A magnificent day with friends on our tour with Big Mama and her baby ‘PopTart’.
